  1. “I thank the Office of the Auditor General for its audit of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada’s reforms to the International Student Program."
  2. The Government of Canada has made supporting Francophone and Acadian minority communities outside Quebec a top priority. The goal is to attract and integrate skilled French-speaking and bilingual immigrants from around the world to boost population growth, meet labour needs and support economic development in these communities.
  3. The Honourable Lena Metlege Diab, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, will deliver remarks and make a funding announcement supporting Francophone immigration in minority communities. The event is being held on International Francophonie Day. The Minister will be joined by Viviane Lapointe, Member of Parliament for Sudbury. A media availability will follow.
  4. Under Canada’s constitution, responsibility for immigration is shared between the federal and provincial or territorial governments. The federal government is responsible for setting overall immigration levels, including the admission targets for each immigration category, issuing visas, and managing permanent residence and temporary foreign worker programs.
  5. The Government of Canada is restoring control of our immigration system while attracting and retaining those with the skills and experience needed to drive our economic growth.
